Nissan President
The second generation Nissan President (type 250) was introduced in 1973 and was a development of the type 150 that had been on the market since 1965. A new, more formal front and extended rear made the top model even more impressive. The V8 engine grew from 4 to 4.4 liters. In addition to continuous minor technical improvements, there was a first facelift in 1977. This brought a grille with vertical bars and a straight rear bumper, with the reversing lights placed between the taillights. In 1982 there was a larger facelift where rectangular headlights and a higher grille were the most noticeable. Under the skin, the leaf springs on the rear axle were replaced by coil springs and a completely new dashboard was installed for the right-hand drive models that exchanged its 60s charm for 80s luxury. This model was sold until 1989.
The Nissan President was not offered for sale outside Japan, you could be granted the right to buy it. In general, in Europe, these cars ended up at embassies, consulates, Datsun/Nissan importers or industrials with connections in Japan.
December 2nd 1976, Don Juan Selga Soler from Las Palmas, owner of the importer for the Canary isles, SOGEMAR Datsun S.A., received the keys to chassisnumber 45. The Type-D trim level meant; 8(!) electric windows, individual heater and radio controls for the rear seat and a rear mounted airconditioning. After a long working life, including a colour change from maroon to blue, the car was laid up in a barn and after years of neglect it was put up for sale. When such a rare care is offered for sale, we just can’t help ourselves and we had to act. Extensive recommissioning was done and it’s road legal again. We are proud to have El Presidente as part of our collection!
