Nissan Cherry Trend
The 4th generation Cherry (N12) was introduced in late 1982. The European market could choose from a 3 or 5 door hatchback. Elsewhere the model, also known as Nissan Pulsar, could also be found as 4-door sedan and 2-door Coupé. Choice of engines was 1.0, 1.3, 1.5 and a 1.7 diesel. In some markets there was also an 1.6 with catalytic converter and/or an 1.5 with turbo available.
The Cherry continued the success of its predecessor, partly due to the well equipped promotional models, which Nissan regularly put in the showroom.
One of the most popular promotional models in the Netherlands was the Trend, which appeared on many models in 1986. For the Cherry Trend the Dutch importer took a 3-door 1.3 or 1.7 diesel in DX trim and had it built with added luxury, which was normally reserved for the GL version; 2 exterior mirrors adjustable from the inside, rear window wiper/washer, black window frames, full wheel covers and fully upholstered luggage compartment.
In addition, the interior that was normally reserved for the Turbo was used, sports seats, a 3 spoke sports steering wheel and special black/blue upholstery. The Trend was available in white, metallic blue and this metallic gray over black two-tone. The popularity was so big that a second series was ordered, in which the 5-speed transmission became standard equipment and single tone metallic gray was also possible.
