Datsun 160B Van DeLuxe
The mid size Datsun was given the name Bluebird when the 3rd generation was introduced in 1959. This name was used only briefly for export, where it was soon replaced by designations in which the engine capacity played a role. The 5th generation (type 510, in Europe Datsun 1300/1600) was quite a revolution in terms of technology; engines with overhead camshafts and independent rear suspension for the saloons. Its successor, the Datsun 160B/180B (type 610, in Japan Datsun Bluebird-U) which was introduced at the end of 1971, used very much the same hardware, but was considerably bigger. Due to its larger size, room was created between the Bluebird and the compact Sunny for the Violet/140J.
The 610 160B/180B was available as a Sedan, Coupé and Van/Wagon. The Van had a rear seat just like the wagon, but was a sparsely equipped 160B that was only offered in a small number of markets. The Wagon was normally a 180B with more luxury. For Norway, a unique combination was made of the 160B Van, but with the DeLuxe equipment as found on the Wagon; Carpet on the floor, wood grain on the dashboard, a decorative panel on the tailgate and full wheel covers. This car is such a Norwegian version, which was in the hands of the Johannessen family from Syfteland until 2013 and came to the Netherlands after spending some time in Germany in 2024.
